Argentine filmmaker Hector Faver directs La Memoria del Agua, which presents the story of Joseph Gruferman, a concentration camp survivor, whose memories of his childhood in Russia and adult life in France are reflected upon as he lay dying. Images of his mother, late wife and daughter frame these poignant memories in a haunting black-and-white film, in which the director fuses his own memory of what happened at the Jewish Cemetery of Carpentras with documentary footage of holocaust atrocities and with the fictional account of Gruferman's life. Received Un Certain Regard at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival. In Spanish, Russian and Hebrew with English subtitles.
