Roza and Juliusz, a talented young architect, marry just before the outbreak of war. When Juliusz is deported to a concentration camp, Roza fears the worst. Convinced he will never return, she falls in love with another man and starts a new life. After the war, Juliusz returns from the camp physically drained and emotionally disturbed by the torments he has suffered.
