For his first theatrical release in nearly a decade, Peter Bogdanovich crafted   a loving evocation of the glamour and decadence of the 1920s with this           fictional speculation on one of the era's greatest scandals and mysteries: the   death of film pioneer Thomas Ince on board William Randolph Hearst's yacht.    The story plays out almost entirely on the boat, where Hearst (Edward Herrman) and Marion Davies (Kirsten Dunst) throw a bash for Ince's birthday.  Ince is   played by Cary Elwes, while the other high-profile guests include Charlie        Chaplin (Eddie Izzard), gossip columnist Louella Parsons (Jennifer Tilly), and novelist Elinor Glyn (Joanna Lumley). Bogdanovich's affection for the period   is obvious and the cast is excellent.                                          Peter Bogdanovich---Great Britain/Germany---2001---112 mins.
