As a Canadian and a woman, Shipman was a pioneer in her industry--an independent producer, writer, actress and conservationist who starred in her own films. Two of these rarities are included on this volume. Both represent the kind of outdoor adventures that were Shipman's specialty. Back to God's Country (David Hartford, 1919) is based on a short story by James Oliver Curwood that was filmed again in 1927 and 1953. In this version, Shipman plays a woman trapped on a ship with a murderous fugitive determined to have his way with her. Something New (Bert Van Tuyle, 1920), based on Shipman's own story, is a thrilling comic western where the hero comes to the rescue of a kidnapped girl in a 1920 Maxwell Sedan.
