As she learns more about the    unsolved crimes of the "Alphabet Killer," she becomes the next potential       victim. This offbeat combination of sword-and-sandal and horror action marked Mario      Bava's emergence as a master with color in film. Reg Park plays Mr. Muscles,     who goes to Hell, literally, to fetch a magical plant that will heal an ailing   princess. Once in Hades, he encounters Christopher Lee as an evil servant of   the god Pluto, rock men, seas of lava and nubile maidens in chains. "...a      textbook case of the redemption of a foolish, semi-coherent plot by the kind   of stunning visuals more often seen in the work of Cocteau or Dreyer" (Gary      Morris, Bright Lights Film Journal). The spirit of a man murdered by his wife and her lover possesses the body of     their son to take revenge from beyond the grave. Mario Bava's                    Exorcist-inspired film is a prime example of the gory but atmospheric      fare that has dominated Italian horror since the mid-1960's. Released as       Beyond the Door II in the U.S., the film has nothing to do with its 1974 predecessor other than a common theme of demonic possession. WHIP & THE BODY (AKA WHAT!)
Our Price: $24.99

This is the uncut, European version of Mario Bava's controversial horror film,   released in a censored version in the U.S. as What!. Christopher Lee       plays the disturbed son of a nobleman who lusts after his brother's wife. When   Lee's character is murdered, some evil doings make many believe his spirit has returned from beyond the grave. But everything is not what it seems in this    gothic tale. Although hardly explicit by today's standards, the depiction of   some sadomasochistic encounters between Lee and the lady he desires resulted     in some heavy cuts when this film played abroad.                               Mario Bava---Italy---1963---90 mins.
