GREATEST, THE ALI (GRIES)
Our Price: $19.95
Out of Stock

Muhammad Ali plays himself in this film biography--actually more of a            hagiography--that is far more valuable as a visual record of Ali at the time     than as a drama. The star-studded supporting cast includes Robert Duvall,        James Earl Jones, and Ernest Borgnine. "...it's like one of his later fights:  heavy in unrealized potential, poor value considering the stars involved, yet  with Ali himself emerging unscathed at the end" (Andrew Nickolds, Time      Out). Monte Hellman finished directing the film after Tom Gries died of a     Tom Gries/Monte Hellman---USA/Great Britain---1977---101 mins.
IGUANA
Our Price: $29.98
Out of Stock

One of Monte Hellman's lesser-known films, Iguana is a multi-national      production that temporarily revived his long-dormant directing career. Based     on a novel by Spanish writer Alberto Vasquez-Figueroa, the film tells the        strange story of a 19th century sailor (Everett McGill of Twin Peaks     fame) with a facial deformity that earns him the name Iguana. Beaten and       tortured by shipmates, he escapes to a deserted island. When others arrive,    they are made prisoners in his kingdom of rage. An "absurdist fairytale, in      which savagery and delicacy wear the same mask...It's Robinson Crusoe as told by Samuel Beckett..." (Richard Jameson, Film Comment). With Michael Madsen and Fabio Testi. English dialogue.                                      Monte Hellman---Italy/Spain/Switzerland---1988---83 mins.
