Mary Harron adds another kinky almost-horror film to her resume, which includes American Psycho and The Notorious Bettie Page. Though not as stunning as those films, The Moth Diaries is more than just a few pretty faces and some frights. Rebecca (Sarah Bolger, In America) leaves for her girls’ boarding school and makes quick friends with Lucie (Sarah Gadon, A Dangerous Method). However, the new girl across the hall, Ernessa (Lily Cole, now a brunette), has an arousing, intoxicating, and ultimately toxic effect on their relationship. Is Ernessa supernatural, or is Rebecca just losing her shit? Either way, expect sex, blood, and death in this adaptation of Rachel Klein’s Sapphic vampire novel. The casting is perfect, including Prof. Scott Speedman.
