A peculiar mix of hard reality and giddy fantasy marks this Kiwi coming of age film. Set in rural New Zealand in 1975, the protagonist, a heavyset 12-year-old boy (Andrew Paterson), doesn't yet know he's gay. But a few more scuffles, a couple experiments with a gangly friend and a crush on a hunky farm hand help the lad down the road towards fabulousness.
