Once again, Paul Giamatti makes you root for an almost irredeemable bastard. In this bipolar drama, Giamatti plays Barney Panofsky, a delusional nebbish who not only convinces a woman to marry him, but goes out of his way to hit on another woman at his own wedding. Said woman is Rosamund Pike, and, to Barney's credit, he believes she's his soul mate. And that's just the setup! All together, Barney's Version is "a murder mystery, a bittersweet romance, a buddy comedy, a disease-of-the-week weepie" (Time Out). And it marks the first theatrical feature directed by Richard J. Lewis, longtime helmer of the original CSI. Co-starring Minnie Driver, Rachelle Lefevre, and Dustin Hoffman. Based on a novel by Mordecai Richler.
