Description Technical Specs

Long before Fat Girl, French author and filmmaker Catherine Breillat was causing controversy with work that bordered on pornography and feminist art, but never sat comfortably in either camp. For her second film, Tapage Nocturne (aka Nocturnal Uproar and Night Noises), Breillat adapts her own novel, an erotic story about a female film director, Solange (Dominique Laffin), who cheats on her husband with various men. However, when she sleeps with Bruno (Bertrand Bonvoisin), Solange breaks her own rules by coming back night after night. "Breillat specializes in explorations of the psychological terrain of feminine shame and desire. Tapage Nocturne, a dark film about a married woman consumed by adultery, was criticized for its sexual boldness" (New York Times). With Joe Dallesandro and music by Serge Gainsbourg. First screened at the 1980 Berlin Film Festival, and again in 2009. In French with English subtitles.
