From Iranian writer-director-star Rafi Pitts (It’s Winter) comes this thriller about Ali, a security guard who enjoys life with his wife and daughter (Mitra Hajja and Saba Yaghoobi) in Tehran. That is, when he’s not out hunting in the nearby forests. But before long, he learns his family has been killed in the crossfire between insurgents and the police, which sends Ali into shock for days. They had nothing to do with the conflict, and yet the police are too mired in bureaucratic hurdles to see justice served. With nothing left to loose, Ali takes his hunting rifle and fires on a police car, claiming the lives of two random officers. A manhunt ensues, and he takes off into the woods. Ali is eventually apprehended by a rookie and his intimidating superior, but the cops and their captive become lost on their way in. With their lives intertwined, the trio’s actions ultimately reveal more about modern Iran than the senseless violence of the first act. Nominated for the Golden Berlin Bear.
