David Gordon Green's marvelous debut feature combines the docudrama              authenticity of regional filmmaking with the delicate, visual beauty of the      films of Terrence Malick. Filmed in North Carolina, the movie captures a place   where the decay of abandoned steel mills meets the lush greenery of a small    southern town, as a group of adolescents (played by non-professional actors)   deals with new romantic feelings, loyalties of friendship, and daily rituals.  A tragic accident and an act of heroism forever change the emotional             landscape.
