This extremely rare film by Murnau is a dramatically adventuresome story of      peasants and the land. Wladimir Gaidarow is a proud, ambitious man who becomes   secretary to a Count (Werner Krauss). He moves his affections from the Count's   daughter (Lya de Putti) to the Count's young second wife (Stella Arbenina)     when he realizes she will inherit an estate which stands on a petroleum oil    field.
