One of the last British silent features, Piccadilly is held in high esteem by many, particularly admirers of E.A. Dupont (Variety), who fee l the director's touch elevates the formulaic material. A beautiful Chinese dancer comes between a nightclub owner and another dancer, leading to murder and mystery. Anna May Wong, Gilda Gray, Jameson Thomas and Cyril Ritchard star. Charles Laughton, in his feature film debut, has a colorful supporting role as disruptive drunk, and Ray Milland appears in a bit part. Shortly afte r the film's original release, new scenes with dialogue were filmed. This, however, is the original silent version. "The melodramatic machinations of the plot may be weak, but Dupont's assured direction, Alfred Junge's art direction, and Werner Brandes' lighting create an atmosphere so hauntingly evocative as to be satisfying in itself" (Robert Murphy, Time Out Film E.A.
