The sequel to Stanley Kubrick's 2001 shares a few common elements. Both    were written by Arthur C. Clarke, both are set in the cosmos, and both are       technically dazzling. However, it's not fair to expect another esoteric          trip through time and space from 2010. As directed by Peter Hyams, the relatively straight ahead narrative tracks an American and Soviet crew led by Roy Scheider and Helen Mirren, respectively, as they try to make sense of   what happened to the crew of the Discovery and HAL 9000. "A good-looking,        sharp-edged, entertaining, exciting space opera--a superior film of the Star   Trek genre" (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times).
