Five films that chronicle the 30-year collaboration between grand, large-scale environmental artists Christo Javacheff and his wife Jeanne-Claude and renowned documentary filmmakers, the Maysles brothers. Includes Christo's Valley Curtain (1974, 28 mins.), an Academy Award-nominated look at the construction of Christo's Valley curtain in Rifle Gap, Colorado; Running Fence (1978, 58 mins.), which depicts Christo's struggle to build a 24-mile fence of white fabric over the hills of California disappearing into the Pacific; Islands (1986, 57 mins.), documenting the creatation of 11 scrub-pine islands surrounded by 6.5 million square feet of bright pink fabric in the waters of Biscayne Bay, Florida; Christo in Paris (1990, 58 mins.), which tracks Christo's escape from Bulgaria, his early years as a struggling artist, his romance with Jeanne-Claude and the fulfillment of a ten-year obsession begun in 1975: the wrapping of the Pont Neuf; and Umbrellas (1995, 81 mins.), which follows the erection of more than 3,100 20-foot-high umbrellas along stretches of valleys in Japan and California to stunning effect for a two-week period in 1991.
