Jacques Becker's opulent costume drama recreates the famed Arabian            Knights tale about a young slave who is sent to fetch his master's latest     wife and ends up falling in love with the woman himself. With his lavish sets    and costumes, Becker spared no expense in realizing a highly stylized and      mythologized world. The final scene, which shows an enormous mass of Ali       Baba's followers, is one of the most memorable scenes in Becker's              distinguished oeuvre.
