Clement (Jean-Louis Trintignant) is part of a right wing political movement and although monied and comfortable, he is an active terrorist. Betrayed by a comrade, he takes his wife Anna (Romy Schneider) and seeks refuge in friend Pauls' house. Once he discovers the identity of the man who betrayed him, he sets out to take revenge.
