An Official Selection at Cannes, Amat Escalante's Los Bastardos is both    a menacing and muted film. It follows a day in the life of Jesus (Jesus Moises   Rodriguez) and Fausto (Ruben Sosa), two Mexican day laborers in Southern         California. They're picked up on the side of the road for a job and get        dropped by their employer in a nameless suburb. Without a word, the bastards   pull out sawed-off shotguns and take a seemingly random housewife (Nina        Zavarin) hostage.
