Description Technical Specs

With the exception of Jeanne Dielman, this anthology includes the major works directed by Belgian filmmaker Chantal Akerman in the 1970s: Hotel Monterey (1972, 62 mins.), Akerman's silent study of a New York hotel; Je Tu Il Elle (1974, 86 mins.), the director's sexually provocative, but stylistically spare first feature; News from Home (1976, 89 mins.), which juxtaposes New York City imagery with letters written by Akerman's mother and read aloud; and Les Rendez-vous d'Anna (1978, 127 mins.), which conveys a fictitious filmmaker's (Aurore Clement) detachment from the world via a press tour in interchangeable European cities. These are joined by Akerman's early short film, La Chambre (1972, 11 mins.). Silent and in French with English subtitles.

Chantal Akerman---Belgium/France/Germany/USA---1972-1978---375 mins.
