A three-day intensive workshop geared toward teens, Feminist Film Camp takes as its starting point Lizzie Borden’s 1983 feminist sci fi classic Born in Flames. Campers will learn the basic concepts and master the basic vocabulary of feminist film theory in a small seminar setting and work with a group of feminist filmmakers and scholars to produce their own film essays and calls for socio-political action that will be posted on the Facets blog. The camp will conclude with a public screening of Born in Flames followed by a youth-moderated panel discussion.

When registering, please include your child's name & age in the NOTES section.

The Facets Kids Film Camp summer enrichment program introduces kids ages 7–14 to the techniques, language and process of filmmaking. Film educators, filmmakers, and respected critics provide guidance in what it takes to understand, create and analyze film.

Through screenings, discussions, and creative, hands-on exercises that include making a movie and opinion writing, participants will learn:

  • Film appreciation, film vocabulary, and early film history.
  • Basic film production techniques (story development, types of shots, composition, screenwriting, storyboarding, acting, casting, lighting, sound, editing, directing, production safety and communication).
  • Written and verbal critique and review.
