Polish filmmaker Jerzy Hoffman followed With Fire and Sword with another epic historical adventure. The Old Fairy Tale, or Stara Basn, features a cast of renowned Polish stars, including Daniel Olbrychski (The Decalogue), Jerzy Trela (Three Colors: White), and Michal Zebrowksi (The Pianist). Based on a novel by Jozef Ignacy Kraszewski, the complex narrative was culled from ninth-century legends of Slavic tribes that existed long before the Polish state was formed.
