Along with Lisbon Story (1994) and Lumiere and Company (1995), the semidocumentary A Trick of the Light can be thought of as Wim Wenders' ode to the cinematic arts. Udo Kier (Blood for Dracula) and Otto Kuhnle (Wings of Desire) play the Skladanowsky brothers, who in 1895 beat the Lumiere brothers by a matter of months in their quest to project the first moving images publicly. This fascinating retelling of film history was gracefully photographed by Jurgen Jurges (Ali: Fear Eats the Soul). In German WITHOUT English subtitles. Optional English dubbing.
